Queen Mary and King Frederik joined Queen Margrethe in Fredensborg today ahead of her birthday celebrations, after they were caught cold on a family skiing trip over Easter. 

The royal couple, Queen Margrethe and her sister, Princess Benedikte, stood outside the palace next to Margrethe’s sausage dog named Tilia, who was also there.

Princess Benedikte also wore a model’s blue blouse and knee-length dress along with a modest blazer and pearl jewelry.

The former teamed this with a red and white patterned blouse, which she tucked into her dress and completed her look with strappy black heels. 

King Frederik, 55, looked slim in a charcoal blue suit which he teamed with a crisp white shirt and brown polished shoes.

The couple, who took the Danish throne in January, stood side by side, Mary’s arms at her sides and Frederik’s behind before waving to crowds of royal fans. 

The king opted for a sapphire blue tie, matching the same color scheme as his wife’s to show sartorial unity amid rumors of marital strife in recent months.

The publication of the photos resulted in Genoveva, 47, issuing a statement denying any kind of romantic relationship between her and the royal and denouncing the “malicious” rumours.

In the past few weeks, Queen Mary has sparked headlines by completing a series of royal engagements alone without her husband.

Four days later, Queen Mary completed another commitment when she was present at the opening of a deer park in Naerum.

On April 9, Queen Mary went out without her husband again for a charity meeting in Copenhagen.

King Frederik and Queen Mary’s schedules appeared to overlap a bit at the beginning of the month when they hosted various guests at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

Mary, 52, appeared to be losing patience with Frederik, 55, when he turned his back on her as they prepared to walk the slopes.

The photos show Mary, who was the picture of ski chic in a wool and cashmere-blend jacquard turtleneck sweater from Moncler, looking away from her husband – as she stood demurely with her hands on her hips.

The couple were joined by their four children, Crown Prince Christian, 18, Princess Isabella, 16, and 13-year-old twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
